Coding Competition in Mauritius (updated)

Hi, we are organizing the first ever coding competition in Mauritius. Everything is not official yet, but we can give you some details about what the competition will be and what are the rules.

Your job is to generate MD5. More specifically, you will be creating programs that will generate MD5 hashes till a specified target is met. You will be ranked based on the amount of time your computer as a whole has taken to generate enough MD5 hashes to meet the target hash. Basically your program must generate MD5 hashes on and on until the hash meets the target MD5 hash that we will provide you with. Please see attached flowchart for details about how your program should work.

Competition Rules:

  1. You must bring your own laptop. Since we do not have a clear place where this will be organised, we cannot guarantee that there will be power outlets.
  2. You must not code in CUDA.
  3. This program must be your own creation. You MUST not use any third party source code, without knowing what it does.
  4. You have your choice of hardware/operating system and programming language.
  5. The word to be hashed will be communicated beforehand. you must ensure that your program does not take more than 5 minutes to generate the amount of characters necessary to crack the MD5.
  6. Usually, the word will be within 5 or 6 characters, no numbers or symbols, just a word.
  7. If we have enough participants, we can go ahead with the competition.
There will be prizes, but again, its not official yet:
1st Prize: Mother boards
2nd Prize:
